This document contains the major changes in Imaging Toolkit 14.0.

Please review the following before upgrading.

New licensing engine

From June 30, 2025, only Imaging Toolkit 14 licenses can be generated. No new Imaging Toolkit 12 licenses will be available from that date. Please plan your upgrades accordingly.

Breaking changes

The following functionality / support has been retired in 14.0.

  • Linux based image (migrate to WinPE/ZMG)
  • .NET Framework installation
  • Windows updates (during base image preparation)
  • ZCM 20.x support
  • OES Client 2 support

ENGL WinPE - Containing all ENGL binaries and license

In previous versions of Imaging Toolkit, ENGL binaries and license were stored on the TFTP imaging server and in the Ztoolkit (add-on) image. This led to some confusion and a lot of support tickets!

With 14.0, we've simplified the process by storing all the ENGL binaries and license in the ENGL WinPE imaging boot media. The Ztoolkit (add-on) image now contains only project settings and custom scripts/files. At deployment time, the ENGL imaging front-end (Zim) identifies the Ztoolkit "project" image has been restored, and copies the ENGL binaries and license to the local disk for use post-imaging.

Following an Imaging Toolkit version upgrade or license change, only the ENGL WinPE imaging boot media needs to be recreated and uploaded to the TFTP server. No longer will the Ztoolkit image need updating.

Monitor Server - Configure once in zim.cfg

As part of the changes to ENGL WinPE and the deployment logic in the ENGL imaging front-end (Zim), monitoring settings (Monitor Server / Deployment Monitor on-premise) are now defined once in the TFTP zim.cfg. Following image restore, monitoring settings are synchronised to the local disk drive to be used post-imaging.

Customers who previously saw only the imaging phase or post-imaging phases being shown in monitoring will appreciate this improvement.

Windows media edition filter

During media import, select the editions to remain visible. This reduces clutter in the File Library and project dropdown lists. The filter can be updated at anytime, although if an ENGL base image has been downloaded, that edition can not be hidden.
