Issue

Some drivers or hotfixes are not installed.

Possible symptoms include:

  • Return code "112" is written to the ztoolkit.log file when attempting to install hotfixes.

  • In the ztoolkit.log, in the section marked
    [Zmainrun-Phase0] Scanning drivers directory 'C:\drivers'...
not all of the .inf files from c:\drivers are listed (these can be seen in the drivers image in the drivers directory by using Novell's Image Explorer; they show in Build Console with the "INF" symbol in the "Settings" column)

Explanation

This occurs on Windows 7 and Windows 8 Systems with large amounts of RAM, e.g. 8GB or more, because the partition being restored to is too small, especially when also restoring a very large driver add-on image or hotfixes image.

Windows creates a page file up to two times the amount of RAM installed.

Prior to Imaging Toolkit 7.0.1 the default base partition size is 20GB.

Solution

Increase the partition size that the base image is being restored to, to allow for the increased page file size

WARNING! Always ensure you have a backup copy of any files before making changes and, where possible, test in a non-production environment first.

Procedure

Done Task

1. Resize the default partition using Image Explorer

2. Test
  1. Resize the default partition using Image Explorer

  • Open your base image using Novell's Image Explorer

  • Right click on the partition

  • Increase the default partition size to incorporate the larger page file

  • Save the image

  • Test

  • Deploy the images to the machine and test to make sure Windows boots.

NOTE: If you are using Imaging Toolkit 7 or later it is also possible to configure the partition size in the project settings and then recreate the base image.
